Draw Your Own Sidewalk Obstacle Course!

I saw an idea for a sidewalk obstacle course on Pinterest, but when I clicked on the pin it was a dead link! I then went Googling and honestly couldn’t find much as far as ideas, or details how to design one. So this mama got creative and just started designing her own! I shared a video of Abi going through the obstacle course and got a ton of messages asking if I could share detailed photos of what I drew, and this blog post was born.

I love this activity because: It’s cheap, it only takes a few minutes to put it together, we can do it in our own front yard, the kids love a little friendly competition, and it wears them out!

What You’ll Need:

All you need is some chalk and a sidewalk or driveway (basically, somewhere big and safe enough to let the kids loose)!

Designing Your Course:

I’ve broken my course down into pieces, so that you can put the pieces in whatever order you’d like! I’ve made multiple courses since the spring, and it’s always fun to change them up a little bit. Is this the most beautiful thing? Nope. Do your kids care if it’s perfect? Also, nope!

I’ve also gone ahead and made some printable obstacle course designs so that if you’re not feeling creative you don’t have to reinvent the wheel 😉 Some even have different sections than what are pictured above! You can snag those for FREE over HERE.

Have you ever built your own sidewalk obstacle course? Do you have any different sections? I’d love to hear about them!

  1. Thank you so much for this idea! It is perfect for an outdoor passive program for the public library where I work as a Children’s Librarian. I may use paint instead of chalk to make it more permanent. Thanks again!
