What is a Habit Tracker?

A habit tracker is a visual aid that’s used to track progress on: starting a new habit, breaking an old habit, or reaching a goal.

It can be as simple as checking off a series of boxes, or something more artistic like filling in a picture.

You know when a hospital is running a blood drive, or a charity is raising money, and they fill in a thermometer as they hit different goals? That’s a habit tracker!

What Can You Track?

The short answer: ANYTHING! Here are some examples of things that you can track :

  • Exercise
  • Water Intake
  • Not eating/drinking certain things
  • Self-Care
  • Reading
  • Crafting
  • Raising Money
  • Cleaning / Chores
  • Business Goals (posting to social media, following up with customers, ect.)

How Do You Use Them?

Most habit trackers are used on a monthly basis, but they can be adjusted to any length of time.

When you reach your goal for the day, you simply fill in the habit tracker to reflect that. Then, as the month progresses you have a visual representation of how you’re doing!

I recommend putting your habit tracker somewhere that you’ll see it throughout the day, so that you have that “in your face” reminder to get ‘er done! Examples include:

  • Next to the coffee machine.
  • On the fridge.
  • On a bathroom mirror.
  • At your desk.

Where Can I Get A Habit Tracker?

If you’re artistic, you can make your own! Folks in the bullet journaling community have been drawing their own habit trackers for years.
